How do I submit?

Please send your submissions to our email address jacarandajournaluq@gmail.com with Edition_11.1 as the subject line.

Label your document in the following format NAMEFORMTITLE (e.g. JOHNSMITHPOETRYPOEMTITLE) in either a .DOCX or PDF format. Artists will do the same but in PNG or J.PEG. Please expect to hear from us by Mid June to Early July 2024. Submissions that are not formatted properly will not be accepted for publication.

Submissions will close for edition 11.1 on the 15th of April 2024.

What happens if my work gets accepted?

Once we notify you that your work is accepted, you will work with one of our editors who will help you make your submission suitable for publication with us. As our editors all work on a volunteer basis, we ask that writers go through a total of two rounds of changes. This is our limit and we will not proceed with work that requires more than this.

FAQs

Do I have to be studying at the University of Queensland to submit? No. We accept writers from anywhere in Australia of any age.

Can I submit work previously published elsewhere? No. To avoid contravening other publications’ copyrights and to ensure we showcase original work, we cannot allow republication.

Do you pay? Jacaranda is run on a volunteer basis and does not have the funding to properly compensate writers or editors financially at this time. However, reimbursing our talented community for their work is extremely important to us. As such, we will be sending writers and artists second-hand books and vouchers as payment for their work.
